About Us

Our mission is to promote public health by supporting transparent and efficient healthcare decisionmaking through the development of reflective and pragmatic MCDA-based approaches for systematic assessments of the comprehensive value of healthcare interventions, for the public benefit.

The EVIDEM Collaboration is an independent, non-profit organization established in 2009 and run by an international Board of Directors.

EVIDEM activities are rooted in advancing the goal of healthcare in its widest sense around the world and across the healthcare decisionmaking continuum to foster health of patients and populations as well as equitable, sustainable and efficient healthcare systems. The EVIDEM framework is based on reflective and pragmatic MCDA and HTA methodologies, and integrates the ethical underpinnings of healthcare decisionmaking.

Towards this goal, the Collaboration:

  1. Provides access to the tools constituting the MCDA-based EVIDEM framework which is designed to holistically integrate the ethical positions underpinning healthcare decisionmaking, via operationalizable criteria while providing an accountable and reflective process to support decisionmaking; the tools are translated in several languages including:العربية, Deutsch, English, Español, Français, Italiano, Nederlands, Português, Română, Pусский, 中国 (Zhōngguó);
  2. Provides an open source platform to the community of members so they can contribute to:
    1. The development of the open source EVIDEM framework: feedback and contributions from users and methodological developers is continually integrated in the framework, which is at the basis of the open-source philosophy. This also includes translation activities.
    2. The development of the Creative Common Collaborative Registry which includes EVIDEM matrices/records of evidence on healthcare interventions developed using the EVIDEM tools and processes.

The EVIDEM framework is currently developed, adapted, tested and used by researchers and decisionmakers from several regions of the world and some of this work has been published and presented at various scientific conferences and meetings. In addition, several Working Groups are furthering the collaboration and the tools. The collaboration also disseminates news on EVIDEM and MCDA activities (EVIDEM in Brief) as well a database of published work on MCDA in healthcare.

Our Activities and Tools

The EVIDEM Collaboration is directed by an international board of directors. EVIDEM activities are rooted in advancing the goal of healthcare in its widest sense, i.e., doing the best for patients, for populations and for healthcare systems. The EVIDEM framework is designed to holistically integrate the ethical positions underpinning healthcare decisionmaking, via operationalizable criteria and to provide an accountable and reflective process rooted in ethics to support decisionmaking. Our activities, the development and use of the EVIDEM framework, and of the Collaborative Registry, advance the goal of healthcare in its widest sense around the world and across the healthcare decisionmaking continuum; to foster health of patients and populations as well as equitable, sustainable and efficient healthcare systems.

The EVIDEM Framework

The EVIDEM framework is based on reflective and pragmatic MCDA and HTA methodologies, and integrates the ethical underpinnings of healthcare decisionmaking. Thereby, its key principles are:

  1.  Collaboration between healthcare stakeholders and among its members to foster constructive participation and communication
  2.  Promotion of the best and most relevant evidence on healthcare interventions
  3. Transparency of evidence and values underlying decisions
  4. Reasonableness in reflection, assessments, deliberations and decisionmaking

These tools are translated in several languages including: العربية, Deutsch, English, Español, Français, Italiano, Nederlands, Português, Română, Pусский, 中国 (Zhōngguó). The EVIDEM framework is currently developed, adapted, tested and used by researchers and decisionmakers from several regions of the world and has been. In addition, several Working Groups are furthering the collaboration and the tools. The collaboration also disseminates news on EVIDEM and MCDA activities (EVIDEM in Brief) as well a database of published work on MCDA in healthcare.

The Collaborative Registry

The Creative Common Collaborative Registry  includes EVIDEM matrices/records of evidence on healthcare interventions developed using the EVIDEM tools and processes.
